Thomas, about fifty years old, works as a taxi driver by night. He lives with his wife, Maria, and his teenage son, Tassos. He has studied literature, a subject he loves, but has never managed to live up to his expectations of himself. Without even realizing it, he is experiencing the frustration of his suppressed creativity. When one of his customers commits suicide, Thomas is prompted to confront everything he’s kept buried inside for too long, and realize the shortcomings of his life. When he meets Eleni, his client’s lost daughter, he sees in her a way out of his deadened life and becomes romantically obsessed with her.

Against the backdrop of a German-occupied Thessaloniki during the tumultuous 1943, the forbidden love between two hopeless dreamers, Yorgos, a rebellious Christian carpenter, and Estrea, a strong-willed Jewish girl, finds refuge in a small but busy tavern: the town’s historic “Ouzeri Tsitsanis”. There, under the Nazis’ heavy thumb, the monumental and prolific composer, Vassilis Tsitsanis, is inspired to write some of his most memorable songs, including the haunting and heartbreaking “Cloudy Sunday”.

Kostas has recently become a security guard in a public hospital. After the sudden death of his older brother, he is forced to take care of his little niece Niki, and also to find the money to save their family house. The moment, he’s lost all hope, a hospital porter will offer an aiding hand; but the price to pay is going to be high.

Abuse in the family, incarceration, losing a loved one, their struggles mirror some of ours; so do their dreams.
