The play is much more than just a stage adaptation, it is an actual retelling of the power that comes from women, within women and with women through the bonds of friendship that endure throughout their lifetime. When we are young, we seem to take for granted all the things in life that we will later understand to have been some of the greatest blessings we could have hoped to have ever received.
When we are older, we begin to scrutinize, make judgments and decisions based on our life experience and become nostalgic for the innocence of our youth. Sometimes between that innocent youth and that wizened maturity, there is a whole lot of living, loving and experiences that will someday be the “light”.
The light that will cast its glow upon the grown-up versions of the young women we were and give us the courage, strength, and desire to rail against any obstacles that might try to block out the light that will help cast our shadow on the path that we have traveled and leave its mark for a fleeting moment assuring us that we are not transparent. We absorb light and we cast a shadow. We radiate light and we glow.
The friendships that bind us and carry us through are the beacons during our rough times and the pyrotechnics of our best times. These are but the few ways we absorb and radiate light.
“Women in the Light” is the retelling of a circle of friends with a history spanning their teen years to their golden years. While each of the women traveled her own path in life and forged her own destiny, there was always that circle of friends that she knew surrounded her and
regardless of location or situation, they knew and accepted her. The her of then and even still the her of now.
