Director’s Note:

Seeing in recent years Greek bar-restaurants on the Danforth — in the heart of the Greek diaspora in Toronto — closing one after another, Greek hangouts slowly disappearing, places that lived for decades fading away… leaving behind memories, experiences, images on the dust of empty floors and “For Rent” signs… I decided to write this play as an attempt to capture a romantic era of human relationships and FRIENDSHIPS that is gradually vanishing.

“This Last Drink at the Harbor” is not just another play… it is a journey through a “collection” of moments where old meets new… romantics confront technocrats, loneliness meets love, solitude meets companionship…

Whatever happens on May 23, 24, 31… one thing is certain… this “final spirit of moments” between a community and an era that is fading… will remain in the memory of our shared journey…

Maybe it is already too late… maybe…
Perhaps we will meet there… in person…
at the last drink at the harbor…

Βλέποντας τα τελευταία χρόνια τα Ελληνικά bar-restaurant στην Danforth, στην καρδιά της Ελληνικής παροικίας στο Τορόντο να κλείνουν το ένα μετά το άλλο, τα ελληνικά στέκια σιγά σιγά να εξατμίζονται, μαγαζιά για δεκαετίες να χάνονται και μαζί τους να αφήνουν εμπειρίες, αναμνήσεις, εικόνες πάνω στη σκόνη των άδειων πατωμάτων και των ταμπελών ενοικίασης «For rent»… αποφάσισα να γράψω ένα έργο σε μια προσπάθεια εξομοίωσης μιας ρομαντικής εποχής με σχέσεις ανθρώπων και ΦΙΛΩΝ που σιγά σιγά εξαφανίζεται…

«Το τελευταίο ποτό στο λιμάνι» δεν είναι άλλο ένα θεατρικό έργο… είναι ένα ταξίδι σε μια «συλλογή» στιγμών όπου κοντράρονται οι παλιοί με τους νέους… οι ρομαντικοί με τους τεχνοκράτες, η μοναξιά με τον έρωτα, η μοναχικότητα με τη συντροφιά…

Ό,τι και να γίνει στις 23, 24, 31 Μαΐου… ένα είναι σίγουρο… αυτό το «τελευταίο spirit στιγμών» ανάμεσα σε μια παροικία και μια εποχή που χάνεται… θα μείνει στις μνήμες του δικού μας ταξιδιού…

Ίσως να είναι πλέον αργά… ίσως…
Ίσως τα πούμε από κοντά…
εκεί… στο τελευταίο ποτό στο λιμάνι…
